The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) opened its Multi-Domain Laboratory (MDL) containing two modular suites. Each suite’s Flight Bay consists of 12 networked flight simulators supporting the employment of 10 different fighter and bomber aircraft types, as well as operational overwatch from 3 Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) ground station simulators with pilot and sensor operator positions.
The two suites can run independently or be linked into the same scenario. Furthermore, the suites fully integrate voice, data link, and chat capabilities to enhance decision-making processes. Future upgrades target the integration and networking of the MDL suites to entities outside of USAFA and beyond.

ZedaSoft, Inc. delivered an upgraded Bell 407GXi Advanced Rotorcraft Simulator (ARS) under FAA contract 6973GH-20-C-00067 to the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI). The ARS flight simulator is designed for CAMI’s research into civil aviation human factors and flight safety. The simulator will be integrated into the existing ZedaSoft-provided data recording and experimenter operator system (EOS). The simulator will also leverage the laboratory’s existing VADAAR LVC video and audio recording software provided by PLEXSYS Interface Products.
ZedaSoft continues to integrate collision detection and avoidance tools to research various means to alert UAV ground operators to possible collisions with other aircraft in support of FAA Special Committee 228. This special committee is working to develop the minimum operating performance standards (MOPS) for detect and avoid (DAA) equipment and a Command and Control (C2) datalink using L-band and C-band solutions to integrate UAVs in the National Airspace System (NAS).
ZedaSoft developed collision awareness and avoidance displays to alert UAV operators to potential collisions with other aircraft. A collision scenario is shown in the picture to the right. The FAA is currently designing the next study using ZedaSoft’s Mockingbird UAS simulator integrated with this display to provide a more modular open systems approach to integrating the National Airspace Systems.
